Firstly, it has been a pleasure to see the children return to school with a positive attitude – we are hopeful that it continues and makes for a very successful year!
We thought it would be a good idea to let you know a few things about Year 6 and our expectations of the children and our routines.
Our children are still expected to read three times a week to an adult at home. We would be very grateful if you would support your child in this and record your comments in their reading record which should come home every night. Every Monday, we check the reading record to ensure the children are reading frequently and if there are any issues we will contact you via letter.
Your child will get reading and spelling homework each week, as well as a maths or grammar task. Throughout the term we will also add further pieces of homework on DB Primary.
We have identified this as an area of development for a significant number of the children. All children have their TT Rockstars login details in their reading record and there will be competitions throughout the year, with a prize given each week. Tables are the key to many areas of primary maths and we would encourage your child to do at least fifteen minutes per night.
Children will need to bring their PE kit on Mondays and Fridays. If your child has wellies, please send them into school every Monday.
Children should arrive at school with a water bottle where possible. Only water is allowed to be consumed in the classroom and we would ask for your support with this. They must be taken home at the end of every day and washed.
If you have any queries during the term, please get in touch as soon as possible and we will do our best to help!
