We are delighted to welcome you into Year 4 and we are looking forward to the year ahead! Miss Harbottle and I are so excited to watch the children learn and grow. Over the next year, our aim is to provide your child fun, engaging learning whilst helping your child strive to succeed.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to speak to us on the school yard after school or you arrange to meet before or after school via the school office. We are always happy to help and want to make sure your child is as happy as can be.
Thank you for your support. Miss Heselton & Miss Harbottle - Year 4 Teachers
Learning in Year 4
During their time in year 4, as well as their core subject learning, English, reading and maths, your child will dive deep into various other curriculum areas. We have a fantastic range of learning this year that will allow your child to showcase their talents, demonstrate their knowledge and learn in a creative way.
- - The Romans (History)
- - Rivers (Geography)
- - Electricity (Science)
- - Teeth and Digestion (Science)
- - States of Matter (Science)
- - Settlements (Geography)
- - Education (History)
- - Habitats (Science)
- - Sound (Science)
As well as this, your child will enjoy:
Art, DT, Music, RE and PSHE.
Your child may also participate in school forest school sessions throughout the school year.
Children will have regular times tables sessions. By the end of Y4, children are expected to have mastered their x tables to 12x12. To test this, all Y4 pupils are required to sit a national multiplication check in June 2022.
Children will have the opportunity to read regularly in school. Please listen to your child read at home as often as possible as this will greatly assist their progress. We would love for you to sign their reading records and are keen to reward them for their reading. Reading records must be in school daily. We are currently waiting on a delayed order of reading records, that we hope will arrive soon.
Year 4 will have two weekly PE sessions. On a Monday, children will attend swimming. They will need a swimming cap, a swimming costume or trunks, a towel, and goggles (optional). Swimming will begin Monday 13th September. Their second PE session will be with our PE coach, Mr Hennis, on a Thursday. Children will need to bring full PE kits to school to be changed into.
Homework will be set on a Monday and the key focus will be maths and English. This is to completed by the following Monday. Children will also be given spellings to learn for a test the following Friday. Spellings will be set on DB Primary. Your child also has access to Times Tables Rockstars to practice their times tables.
