We have had a lovely start to Autumn 2 with the children enjoying firework week which included a visit from the fire service, the writing of firework poems and creating firework pictures using paints and printing. This week the children have been doing some work centred around anti-bullying week and produced some lovely work about the qualities of being a good friend. We are also well into our new History topic about the Tudors which the children are thoroughly enjoying. We are sure they could tell you some interesting facts about life then!
We are of course looking forward to our Christmas build up and we have lots of fun and exciting things and events planned! Look out for further information about these.
We are of course available to discuss any aspects of your child’s learning/school life and should you want an appointment please contact the school office so that an appointment can be made.
Thank you for your support with your child’s home reading it is really making a difference.
Thank you so much for your support.
Year 2 Team
Dear Parents and Carers,
We would like to extend a very warm welcome to you and our new children in Year 2.
They are already settling in wonderfully and it is lovely to have our busy classrooms back!
As the children are in their new year we are giving some information that will hopefully be useful in helping the children settle in and will also help them to make excellent progress this year.
As a school we believe that reading is one of the most important things that children learn, therefore, the children will have a home reading book which will be at their current reading level. As part of their homework we ask that the children have an opportunity to read to an adult, or an older brother or sister every night. It would be beneficial if you could comment on their reading and sign their book. As the Teachers read regularly with the children please bring the books into school every day. Every Friday the children will also take home a reading for enjoyment book, which they will they will choose, and will not necessarily be at their reading level but can be enjoyed at home. Please could this be returned each Friday so as the new one can go out.
Homework will be given each Friday and will be:
Spellings (accessed on dbprimary)
Half termly topic homework will also be given out – dates will be given on the information sheet.
Please ensure that your child brings in a named PE kit. This should stay in school for the half term.
Please ensure that all school clothing is named.
Year 2 will be having Forest Schools for the full Autumn Term every Monday. If possible, could you provide wellies and a waterproof raincoat. If you do not have these they will be provided by the school.
Please ensure that your child has a named water bottle in school.
If your child wears earrings please remove them/wear plastic retainers or cover with plasters otherwise sadly for health and safety reasons they will not be able to participate in PE, Forest School or play on the outside play equipment.
Any messages can be passed on to the staff on the door in the mornings. We will be meeting you shortly in Parents Evening however if there is anything you would like to discuss with us we are available to meet with you after school. Please contact the office for this. If somebody different is picking your child up please inform staff in the morning or tell the office.
We are looking forward to a year with lots of fun filled learning.
Thank you for your support.
