During Autumn we have been learning about the Romans as part of our History topic. Here are some of our Roman weapons we made...
We made fossils using clay.
We placed clay in plastic cups then put a toy dinosaur on top. We used more clay to 'compress' the dinosaur. When the clay had dried, we cracked it open to find our own fossils!
After a hard week of SATs tests, Year 6 enjoyed a well deserved treat. We had pizzas from Dominos!!
3HL Where does fruit come from?
To start our topic about plants, we looked at seeds in fruit. We tried different fruits and made fruit salads using the fruit we like.
3HL Professor Brainstorm
Professor Brainstorm came to school to show us his Science Show. Take a look at our photos!
Safer Internet Day
We discussed how to stay safe online. We know that if we are using the internet and something unfamiliar pops up on the screen we must tell an adult.
Jay's animal encounters
Jay visited our classroom as part of our topic. We wanted to find out why a meerkat couldn't live in the North Pole. With him Jay brought animals including a meerkat, snake, scorpion and tarantula. We learned lots about the animals and some of us were even brave enough to hold them!
Stone Age Shelters
We looked at how the Early Britons lived. We found out that they lived in caves and built their own shelters. We used different materials to make models of Stone, Bronze and Iron Age shelters.
In December, an illustrator called Liz Million visited us. We had a great time drawing!
4CB Visit to Church 3.10.16
All Y3 and Y4 visited St Aidan's Church. Y4 stayed behind after Mass and looked at the different parts of the Church with Father Leon.
4CB Roman Weapons
We designed and made some Roman weapons. Daggers (Gladius), Shields (Scutum) or Javelins (Pilum).
Year 6 Viking visit 2016-17
We had a visit from some Victorious Vikings! They showed us weapons, told us stories and even had a great battle!
Year 1 Materials
On Tuesday, the three little pigs left a parcel in our classroom. Inside was a letter asking us for some help. The three little pigs wanted to find out what material would be best to stop water getting in their roof. We investigated different materials to find out which was the most water proof. We used clay, plasticine and dinosaurs to make our own fossils. We put clay in a cup then put a dinosaur on top. After that, we compressed plasticine over the top. When we ripped the cups and opened the layers, we were left with the shape of the dinosaur! We had great fun! Take a look at our photos.
Scales and Tails
As an end of year treat, for working so hard, we invited Scales and Tails into our classroom. We got to hold and stroke lots of different animals! Some of us were scared but we showed how brave we could be!
Y3 Visit to Summerhill
During Sports Week we visited Summerhill to do den building and some map reading. We had great fun whilst getting VERY muddy!
Australian Bush Tucker Trial
Since this week is Sports Week and our class has chosen Australia as our country, we kick-started the afternoon with an Aussie Bush Tucker Trial! We were blindfolded and has to put our hand in different boxes to feel the creepy crawlies!
Year 5 visit to St Hild's
Year 5 had the opportunity to attend St Hild's secondary school for a two day taster session.
Race for Life
We all took part in the Race for Life to raise money for Cancer Research. All of us ran 3 whole laps around our huge school field! Some of us ran more!
Year 4 Trip to Newcastle
We had a fantastic time on our trip to Newcastle. We visited the Discovery Museum, saw lots of landmarks and went to the Quayside Seaside. We even enjoyed a McDonald's!
Math Through Art
On Tuesday 21st June, Y3 invited their parents and carers into school. After a little lesson in the classroom about angles, parallel lines, measuring and arrays, we went outside to create some art work. Our work is based on the art work of Kandinsky. We had a great fun!
90th Birthday Celebrations
On Friday 27th May, we celebrated out school's 90th Birthday. We dressed in 1920's clothes and took part in some 1920's activities. We had a lesson from a teacher from Beamish.
3ZC Kite Man
Today we had a visit from the 'Kite Man'. We learnt about the history of kites and then got to make one of our own. There was lots of tricky steps, but we persevered and all got to fly our kites on the field at the end of the day.
We looked at magnets to see how forces can attract and repel. Then we created an assembly to share with our parents/carers everything we had learnt!...
We had an amazing day learning about kites, designing and making our own kites. We even got to fly them on the field. The went meant we had great fun!
5KR Evacuees at Beamish
Year 5 got to experience life as an evacuee in WW2 at Beamish. They blacked out the windows on the house and made carrot cookies on the farm and tending to the animals. We also explored the museum further and went back in time to the mining days, we went down the mind and found coal, we went to school and played with interesting hool-a-hoops and visited the dentist to get all of our teeth out!
1LW Measuring our beanstalks
We planted bean plants and we have been watching them grow. We used rulers to begin to measure our beanstalk using cm.
Here are some photographs of what Reception Classes have been getting up to in Spring. We have planted flowers and have been sprucing up our outside areas, including our new addition of a Prayer Tree, surrounded by the school values. The children have enjoyed getting out and about with the better weather and are using the equipment made available for them to have fun whilst learning.
Year 4 had an amazing day at Summerhill. We built dens, went bird watching and found out about the different habitats of animals in our locality.
Year 1 had lots of fun at Hardwick Park learning all about the different plants we find in Spring. We also searched the park for different types of birds and created tally charts. We had a fantastic day!
5KR HUFC Football P.E.
Member of HUFC have worked with 5KR during our PE sessions to develop our football skills , focussing on our ability to work well as a team.
Reading Buddies 4AH
On Friday afternoon, some of us went to Miss Waterhouse's Year 1 class and some of the Year 1's came to our class. We paired up into reading buddies. We listened to the Year 1's read and they listened to us read. It was a lovely end to the afternoon.
On Wednesday 20th April Class 3HL took part in a Judo taster session. The children listened well and tried very hard. Here is what some of the children said about the session: Poppy: "I liked it when we got to throw our partners over us!" William: "I liked it when we had to roly poly over our partners." Ruby: "I liked it when we learned how to throw our partners over our heads." Kieran: "I liked it when Zac and I had to stop each other from getting the star." Emily: "I thought I was good at Judo." Erin: "I liked it when we had to sit on our partner and get the star." Jaxon: "I thought I was good at pinning Alfie on the floor!" (Don't worry nobody got hurt! We are very caring with each other!) Lily: "I liked it when I demonstrated a forward roll to the class." Izzie: "I am really good at roly pollys!" Alyssia: "I think Emily and I worked really well as a team!" Ollie: "My favourite part was when Daniel threw me over his back and I did a flip and landed on my back." Theo: "I liked the part where I did a big forward roll!" Take a look at our photos. How does Usain Bolt move so quickly?
As part of our topic, we invited Kieran in from iFit Kids to teach us about muscles and bones. We found out about how muscles and bones are used. We had great fun and did some exercise too! Take a look.
Year 3 A Taste of the Mediterranean Afternoon
On Wednesday 13th April 2016, the Y3 children invited their parents and carers into school to join in some art activities and to sample some Mediterranean food. They recreated Paul Cezanne's Bay of Marseille. The children also designed some Mediterranean style plates and tasted some different food. The children were challenged to try one thing that they had not tried before. We were very happy to welcome over forty parents on Wednesday afternoon. Thank you to every one who attended! Space to Learn
We visited Space to Learn as part of our new topic! We all had so much fun acting out the story of Little Red Riding Hood and creating our own story maps. Take a look at our photographs from the visit.

Clued Up Kids.
We worked with the people from Clued Up Kids and found out how to stay healthy.
1LW Clued U p Kids
We had a great morning learning all about Clued Up Kids! We found out the names of lots of different fruits and vegetables. We even had a go at making a fruit smoothie on the special bike! Don't forget to register with Clued Up Kids at home(www.cluedupkids.com) and record your daily activities. The more points we get, the more free playground equipment we get!

Y4 Trip to Vindolanda
Y4 had a fantastic time on our trip to Vindolanda! We found out lots of great information about the way the Roman's lived.
4AH model digestive system
This week we have been learning about the digestive system and how food is transported around the body. Take a look at our models of the digestive system.
4AH Melting experiment
4AH carried out an experiment to find the melting points of different chocolate types. Which one do you think was the highest?
Beamish was amazing! We found out all about what life was like over 100 years ago. During our visit, we took part in a Christmas workshop where we made decorations and played games from the past.
December - Who Lived in Early Briton?
At the beginning of our topic, Class 3HL became archaeologists! We carried out a 'dig' to find out about the Early Britons.
4GC Playing Traditional Board Games
As part of the WOW for our 'What would you have done after school 100 years ago?' topic, children brought in traditional board games to play.
4GC Making Electrical Game
At the end of our 'How would you cope without electricity?' topic, 4GC made electrical games that buzz when the circuit is complete.
Class 3HL's Clay Fossils
We made our own fossils by pressing a small model of a dinosaur in clay.
Our Trip to the Headland 3HL
In September, Y3 went to the Headland beach to look for fossils and to make rock sculptures. Have a look at our photographs.
During our P.E lessons we have been learning more about the sport of Basketball. This week we have been practising our shooting.
5YR Anglo-Saxon brooches
During our History Topic we made Anglo-Saxon brooches using cardboard, newspaper, modrock and paint.
Potions and magic spells
We read the story 'Room on the broom'. The children wanted to make a potion to mend the broomstick in the story.
5KR Anglo Saxon brooches
This term we have been exploring the life of Anglo-Saxons and we discovered that they used to make brooches and sell them for food. We have created our own versions of Anglo-Saxon brooches
On 5th October, 4GC made watercyles made from zip-lock bags as part of their science topic 'How would we survive without water?'
On the 1st October, 4GC made shakers by following instructions in preparation for writing their own.
Our Rocks Topic WOW
The children in class 3HL looked at lots of different rocks at the beginning of our topic.
Year 3ZC Rocks and Fossils
In Year 3 we have been looking at what rocks tell us about the way the Earth was formed. We have investigated a selection of rocks and have even created our own sedimentary and igneous rocks from chocolate as well as fossils from modelling clay!
